Our Fitness Instructors are key to our members' successes through effective delivery and support of their fitness journey. We are looking for an additional Colleague to join the team on a permanent, full-time basis, predominantly based at the Regional Pool and Tennis Centre, but with flexibility to work across all Newport Live locations as and when required.


Hours, Pay and Benefits

Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week on a three-week rota pattern as shown below

Pay: starting salary £23,151 per annum with an increase after successful six-month probationary period

Week One: Mon 05:45-14:15, Tue 05:45-14:15, Wed (14:00-22:15), Thu (13:00-22:15), Fri (13:00-22:15), Sat (off), Sun (off)

Week Two: Mon (12:00-22:15), Tue (12:00-22:15), Wed (off), Thu (off); Fri (off); Sat (off), Sun (07:45-20:15)

Week Three: Mon (off), Tue (off), Wed (05:45-15:15), Thu (05:45-15:15), Fri (05:45-15:15), Sat (06:45-19:15), Sun (off)


Key Experiences and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experiences 

  • REPS / CIMSPA endorsed level 2 qualification (minimum) 
  • Experience working in a similar role / environment 
  • Excellent customer service skills: comfortable interacting with members to provide guidance and assistance 
  • Programme design skills: building effective personalised programmes tailored to individual needs
  • Experience in carrying out basic fitness testing including blood pressure, BMI, body fat percentage, step test and callipers
  • Competent IT skills with the confidence to use a variety of systems and software
  • Working awareness of health and safety regulations and legislation 

Beneficial Qualifications, Skills, and Experiences 

  • Ability to converse / communicate in Welsh 
  • Experience with digital programming and video exercise consultations
  • Level 3 Exercise Referral qualification 
  • REPS / CIMSPA Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification 
  • Level 3 / Level 4 Strength and Conditioning Coach
  • GP Referral Scheme qualification 
  • First Aid at Work certificate (essential to the role but not for your application)
  • Experience providing one-to-one training sessions 

Role Requirements

Our Fitness Instructors demonstrate their empathy and motivation as fitness ambassadors by building rapport with members of all ages and abilities, and having the capability of delivering structure programmes with a positive and supportive mindset. 

Main responsibilities include: 

  • Supervising our facilities with a warm and friendly manner to ensure a positive Welcome for our members
  • Recognising when members may need additional help and confidently approaching them in a supportive manner
  • Supporting members with their bespoke journey which includes assessing their individual needs and building progressive programmes strategic to their goals
  • Driving member journeys forward from Member Welcome to Ongoing 121 and Fitness Programmes in line with their goals 
  • Ensuring members adopt safe practices and standards when using / operating equipment and amenities 
  • Collaborating with fitness team colleagues to promote various aspects of our programmes including gym challenges, member events, group exercise and outreach 
  • Monitoring all areas of the fitness suites to ensure they are clean, tidy and in good repair, and reporting any defects or problems as required

Additional Requirements

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to a successful Disclosing and Barring Service (DBS) check.
